Aluminum Sand Casting Process

Filed under: Cast Parts — Tags: — admin @ 1:52 am

Aluminum Sand Casting Process. Sand casting is one of the various aluminum castings processes. Sand casting involves the used of sand mixture in molding the molten liquid (metal). In this process, the first step is to create a mold in the sand, next is to integrate a gating system, take out the pattern, pour in the molten metal into the mold cavity, let the metal to cool down to solidify, and lastly, break away the sand mold and remove the casting.

When using the sand casting process, a pattern of the desired shape is used. This pattern can be made up of wood, plastic or metal. A single pattern can be used for simple designs, while complex designs usually have split patterns. The split pattern is divided into two parts, the upper part is called the cope, and the bottom part is called a drag. In the process, the mold is filled up with either a casting sand or green sand. Chills can be placed in the mold in order to control the solidification and metallurgical structure of the metal.

Aluminum sand casting process is an inexpensive process for manufacturing aluminum cast parts. It is cheaper as compared to other aluminum casting processes such as die casting and investment casting. Sand casting can be used in both high-temperature and low-temperature metals but is usually used in the processing of low-temperature metals such iron, copper, aluminum, magnesium, and nickel alloys. This particular aluminum casting process is quite similar to the plaster cast method. The pattern is placed in a box called flask and then filled with sand.

Miniature Zinc Castings

Miniature Type of Zinc Die Castings

Zinc die casting is very popular among those who are in the die casting industry. Zinc is very good die casting material because of its properties. A lot of products come from zinc die casting, including golf clubs, automotive parts and hardware parts. One type of zinc die casting is the miniature zinc casting process. Die Casting parts zinc castings are made with the use of a 4-slide die casting mold. The weight of production processes range from a fraction of an ounce to as much as ¾ lbs with sizes from miniscule to 4 x 4 x 1 inch. Miniature zinc casting parts can undergo die casting in a complete range of zinc alloys like Zamak 2, Zamak 3, Zamak 5 and Zamak 7. ZA-8 zinc-aluminum alloys can also be an option. Zamak is another name for Zinc.

The main reason why manufacturers use miniature zinc casting is because miniature zinc die casting parts can undergo faster cycling and can be made on multi-slide hot chamber zinc die casting machines. Miniature zinc die casting machines have proven this new technology as the choice for highly sophisticated miniature zinc casting components. Although the technology of high-precision miniature zinc die casting process is very much alike, the hot chamber zinc die casting process of bigger zinc part types, the former is able to hold higher tolerances, usually with zero draft to “net shares” or “as cast” in faster cycles.

Zinc and ZA8 parts are developed by reducing the metal shrinkage and removing operations of pre-die casting. Automated production of zinc parts can make miniature zinc casting parts and units attain a value of pennies per piece and with tremendous low tooling investments. Plus, the lifespan of your projects can endure longer time when you use miniature zinc and ZA-8 die casting tooling.

Aluminum Cast Parts for Better Living

Aluminum Cast Parts for Better Living. The use of aluminum cast parts is widespread; from the cars on the roads to the aircrafts in the sky, from the CPU at your office to the cooking utensils in your kitchen, aluminum part castings are so used up in these things.

It is a great thing that aluminum has been discovered to have various usage to make our electronic appliances work and to keep our electricity continuously provided and transmitted. It is quite difficult to think how we can use a car that is made up of metal that is not resistant to corrosion or to have aircraft that is made up of metal that is just too heavy to fly. Aluminum cast parts are effectively utilized to create tools to help us in our daily chores and tasks. Constructions receive much help from this aluminum as well; the steels that are used for the building, the tools that are utilized during the construction, the windows, door frames, and roofs, all of these could actually be all made out of aluminum. As for the automotive industry, aluminum is used in the manufacture of vehicles, trucks, cars and aircraft. The machines used in the construction of the other parts of these automobiles could as well be made up of aluminum.

Aluminum, in order to become as what it is being used today, undergoes a process called die casting. Casting has various methods, such as sand casting, die casting, permanent mold casting, and investment casting. Whichever method is to be used depends upon the type of aluminum product that is to be produced. Each method has its own appropriate usage; it depends upon the specification and quantity of the product.

Choosing the Best Die Casting Company. choosing the best die casting company is not easy. That is because there are lots of die casting companies that will compete for your attention. Choosing the best therefore can be very confusing sometimes. So here are some general tips that can help you are Choosing the Best Die Casting Company.

The first thing you can do is to look for die casting company on the Internet. This does not mean that die casting companies that have websites are the best. Searching online will allow you to find the different product features and manufacturing strengths of different die casting companies.

You may have to choose a die casting company that can answer your specific casting needs. For example, if you require aluminum parts that do not need additional machining, then look for a company with capability to produce refined aluminum parts.

You should also determine if the die casting company can accommodate the customization you require for metal castings. Die casts can be customized according to your needs but you may have to pay for additional charges for complicated shapes. So it is also important to factor the costs of production and compare different manufacturing quotes.

Volume and fast turn around are also important factors you need to consider. Look for a company the can accept small production runs if you only require 100 parts. If you require several thousand parts, you should find out how fast these parts can be made. Normally, a good aluminum die casting company can deliver in less than four weeks.

Producing Aluminum Part Castings with Die Casting

Filed under: Aluminum Casting Parts — admin @ 1:38 am

Producing Aluminum Part Castings with Die Casting. Aluminum part castings can be made using a variety of casting processes, but the most extensively used among all these is the die casting process. Basically, aluminum die casting parts are made by injecting molten aluminum metal into metal molds or dies. Substantial pressure is needed; rapid injection plus rapid solidification are all combined in order to produce fine-grain, notably dense surface structures. These features lead to impressive wear and fatigue properties, making aluminum cast parts highly collectable. It is important that great care be exercised because incidents of shrinkage and air entrapment may occur, leading to porosity and damage in costs.

The die casting process or aluminum casting process is known to produce parts that are not easily heat-treated or welded due to entrapped gases. Thus, aluminum part castings made with die casting are typically not heat-treated but, on most occasions, are only given metallurgical as well as dimensional treatments for their necessary stabilization. To protect parts for certain special applications, manufacturers often use a form of vacuum for cavity venting. Moreover, special techniques are employed during production to deal with pressure-tight parts. Aluminum alloys that carry narrow freezing ranges are ideal.

Speaking of alloys, aluminum part castings of the best quality are those made from the family of aluminum-silicon-copper alloys. This family offers an excellent combination of strength, fluidity, corrosion resistance, freedom from hot shortness, and cost. Today, at least 85% of die castings made from aluminum alloys come from the said family, proving its ability to match every industrial business’ needs.
