The Die Casting Part Manufacturing Process

Die Casting is a manufacturing process in which metal parts are produced very rapidly. Metal alloys are melted into a fluid state. The melted metal or molten metal sits near a die casting machine. The molten metal alloy is ladled (cold chamber die casting process) or injected (hot chamber die casting process) into the diecasting machine. Some materials can be injected using the hot chamber process but all materials can be used in the cold chamber die casting process. In die casting, metal parts are produced at the rate of one every minute and sometimes or four parts every minute.

In multiple cavity die casting molds, sometimes thousands of parts can be produced every day.

Aluminum Die Casting Process

The aluminum die casting part production process is the most common die casting part production process. About 90% of all the die casting parts produced in America are manufactured using the aluminum die casting part production process. Aluminum die casting is solely a cold chamber die casting process. The automotive industry is the largest purchaser of aluminum die casting parts.

Aluminum automotive die casting parts would be:
  • Motor brackets
  • Car door handles
  • Etc...

Aluminum die casting is used in many applications because of the inherent qualities of the aluminum alloy. Electronic companies take advantage of the fact that aluminum is very electrically conductive. Aluminum die casting is used for aluminum heat sinks because aluminum has a high heat conductance. Aluminum is used for electronic radio housings and other metal part manufacturing applications that electrical and heat conductivity is helpful.

Zinc Die Casting Process

The zinc die casting part production process is the second most common die casting process in america. The zinc die casting advantage is that the zinc die casting alloy can be used in a cold chamber die casting machine or a hot chamber die casting machine. The hot chamber die casting machine automatically pumps the metal into the die casting machine. Since, aluminum corrodes steel, zinc alloy can be used but not aluminum alloys.

    Zinc Die Casting Parts:
  • Produced in "Cold-Chamber" Die Casting Machine or "Hot-Chamber" Die Casting Machine.
  • Mostly zinc is used in hardware products.

Brass Die Casting Process

The brass die casting manufacturing process, used to make metal parts using brass alloy. Brass die casting is not as common as zinc. Brass uses an amount of lead in some of the brass alloys. Brass is used when materials need to be stronger or have a "gold" shine. Brass is seen mostly in the plumbing industry.

Brass parts die castings are used:
  • Mostly for faucets and other plumbing products.
  • Heavier than other alloys in die casting.

Cast Parts Die Casting Company does not produce parts using any brass die casting alloy.

Magnesium Die Casting Process

The Magnesium Die Casting Process is the newest material used in die casting.

Benefits of the Magnesium Die Casting Process:
  • Lighter weight materials
  • Hot Chamber die casting process or Cold Chamber die casting process

Cast Parts Die Casting Company does not produce parts using any magnesium die casting alloy.
