Functions of a Die Casting Company

Functions of a Die Casting Company. Die casting is a common process in the metalworking industry. Die cast metal parts are being used by a lot of industries around the world. Almost all modern products that we use everyday have metal parts in it. The function of a die casting company is to provide the manufacturing trade with the metal parts needed in the building of products and the producing of goods. When die cast metals are needed, a diecasting company can design, fabricate, and assemble a custom made die cast metal product according to customers’ specifications, and also provide machining and finishing needs. These companies will have in their employ a number of designers, engineers, and machinists. It will have a tool shop, a machining facility, a design area, and big die cast tooling machines to do the work.

A die casting company uses mostly non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, zinc, magnesium, tin and lead. These are the easiest metals to mold. These metals have additional useful properties such as light weight, non corrosive, high tensile strength, thermal and electrical conductivity. Each metal will have these different qualities in varying amounts. The choice of metal will also influence what type of die casting machine will be used in its manufacture. The two types of machines are the hot chamber and the cold chamber machines. A good die casting company will provide customers with consultants who will help them choose the best metal for a certain die cast part. Finally, a good die casting company will provide finished precision quality products with accurate dimensions, sharp definitions, and a choice of finishes.

Die Casting Tooling Construction and Design

Die casting tooling construction and design. In die casting procedures, the die casting tooling takes an important role. The tooling is the equipment that forms the product, and in the case of die casting in auto industry the tooling will help shape the auto part or accessory. This is also known as the die and the product is often made from the alloy tool steels and will have two general sections. In other tooling, it will have more than two sections.

The first section in the diecasting tooling is the fixed die half or the cover half and the second major component of the tooling is the ejector die half and this tooling component will allow for the removal of the castings. The casting may be crafted from a variety of materials. Some popular materials used include the non-ferrous metals like zinc, copper, aluminum, magnesium, lead and the tin-based alloys.

Aside from the two distinct components in most tooling, some dies will also feature that moveable slides and sections so as to produce other characteristics on the finished products. There will be holes in the fixed die half and these holes will allow for the entrance of the molten metal into the cavity. The cover half on the other hand will have passageways that can route the molten metal into the cavity. To ensure that no amount of molten metal will get out of the cavity, the die cast tooling will also feature locking pins. Ejector pins can be observed too and these pins will help remove the cast part.

Automated Die Casting Machine Cell

Found this video on Google of a completely automated die casting machine work cell. As you can see the raw materials go into the furnace and completed parts come out of the other end. It is a three minute video and well worth looking at. ENJOY

The Role of Die Casting Company in the Industry

The Role of Die Casting Company in the Industry. Die casting company and other businesses that create related products are hailed in the metalworking industry for producing the highest number of mass produced tools. These are distributed to commercial, consumer and industrial sectors. A die casting company supply tools that are used various products including automobile parts, sink and bathroom faucets, connectors used in houses, toys and a lot more.

The process of die casting starts by forcing the molten metal into dies of mold cavities that are under high pressure. Non-ferrous metals are commonly used by a die casting company to produce their products. Such metals or alloys will determine the strengths and other characteristics of the final output. These include aluminum, lead, tin, magnesium, zinc and copper. Nowadays, ferrous metals can also be utilized in the process. The method of casting is perfect for production of high volume of quantity of parts which may be small to medium that are good in surface quality, detail and dimensional consistency.

A die casting company should collaborate with good designers in order to create the best products that they can come up with. This must be done at an early stage of the development. This way, certain issues which may come up on tooling and production stages will be resolved early on. This will affect the overall costs of the whole production.

Related topics about die casting design can also be researched through books, trade journals, technical papers and professional leagues or associations. You will also find additional information about this on the Internet and published materials.

Die Casting Molds 101: How The System Works

Die Casting Molds 101: How The System Works.

Die casting molds can be called by a host of names including die casting tooling, die casting dies or even insert dies. However, to simplify matters, these die casting molds may be simply referred to as “die casting tooling”. Regardless as to whether the dies are used in cold chamber machine production or hot chamber machine production, the principle behind its use is the same.

Die casting tooling molds come in two halves: the cover half and the ejector half. These two pieces are usually secured with locking pins that are now automatically fastened and released. The cover half is the immovable part. This remains as is all throughout the operation and usually does not contain any holes or passageways. The ejector half, on the other hand, can be detached during production since this is integral in the automatic ejection of the pieces within the dies. This half also contains spruce holes where the molten material is allowed to be squeezed through and eventually fill up the die cavity.

With more sophisticated dies, especially those that are designed to have pieces that have holes and tubes running within, the ejector half usually contains the gates (inlets) and runners (passageways) where it can route the molten material to. When the molten has taken the desirable shape, die casting mold tooling usually utilize ejector pins to automatically remove the pieces from the dies. Some machines even have openings for coolants (to speed up the cooling process considerably) and lubricants (in preparation for the next stage in production.)
